Italian Savage Gear consultant Marco Giudici was convinced his chosen lake could hold a record zander – and now he’s proved it.

After an eventless day, Marco sensed some activity in an area close to some floating docks. The fish seemed active in a very small area, chasing a school of roach.

Marco rigged up a small dead roach in a “fireball” rig with Softflex wire and two P1 size trebles – on a 15gr jig head. Marco used a long 15lb Spectrum FC tippet for best possible presentation.

Marco presented the bait in approximately six metres of water just under the school of roach and the fish took straight away. Immediately Marco could feel it was a big fish – the fight dragging out for a good 10 minutes on the light seven foot 10g Bushwhacker rod.

Once the huge fish came to the surface, Marco could barely get the net under the massive fish – but when he did he could hardly believe his eyes – the zander was build like a carp!

The monster measured 105cm in length and a whopping 54cm girth – pulling the scale all the way down to over FIFTEEN KILOGRAMMES.

The fish, which of course is a personal best, was returned to fight another day. It’s got to be some kind of record and it’s certainly way over the IGFA All tackle zander record of 25lb 2oz caught in Sweden.
